"Livedoor and Its Impact"
Because of spreading false information to inflate stock prices, Livedoor Co. chief executive Takafumi Horie and other executives were arrested by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office on January 23rd, 2006. “Today’s Closeup” will report the impact which Livedoor brought about. Mr. Horie used to be praised as a new-comer for the century, but some people were suspicious about his business strategies. “Today’s Closeup” this week will report why no one could recognize Livedoor’s illegal transactions, and will analyze from their rapid-growth to the decline.

～暴走の軌跡～
ライブドアの関連会社よる証券取引法違反事件で、東京地検特捜部はライブドアの堀江貴文社長が、関連会社が発表した企業買収や業績などのうその発表に関わっていた疑いが強まったとして堀江社長ら４人を２３日に逮捕した。クローズアップ現代ではシリーズでライブドアが与えた衝撃を検証する。時代の寵児としてもてはやされた堀江容疑者だが、その一方で、これまでその経営手法を疑問視する声も上がっていた。なぜライブドアの不正は見過ごされたのか。シリーズ１回目では、ライブドアの急成長から転落までの軌跡を検証する。

"Expansion of Telemedicine - Save patients from detached places"
"Telemedicine" was first launched as a countermeasure for the lack of doctors. Local doctors being guided remotely by specialized doctors at a University hospital via video would perform emergency operations. This medical treatment has been practically introduced and systematized in local areas.
This system is now starting to be implemented for medical preventions as well. Building the network between medical facilities and resident's, doctors now can experimentally monitor people's health care, such as blood pressures and cardiograms in a regular basis, all remotely. Some hospitals are going to introduce this system for this benefit and to cut down on costs.
The Japanese Telemedicine and Telecare Association (JTTA) was established last April, contributing to the expansion of online medical treatment by their high-speed network. However, some people feel uneasy about being diagnosed via video and having their medical records computerized. There is also the cost of this equipment investment.
"Today’s Closeup" this week will report the frontline of "Telemedicine" which has been changing medical scenes dramatically, and will also analyze further subjects for its expansion.

広がる遠隔医療
～離れた場所から命を守れ～
地方の医師不足対策としてはじまった「遠隔医療」。大学病院の専門医がモニターを通して離れた場所の医者にアドバイスをしながら緊急手術を行うなど、地方を中心に実用化されつつある。その一方で、このシステムを予防医療に利用して、医療費削減に活かそうという動きも出てきた。住宅と病院をネットで結び、住民の血圧や心電図などを定期的にモニターする健康管理のシステムが試行されはじめたのだ。去年4月には「日本遠隔医療学会」が設立され、高速ネットワークを使った医療の普及がより一層高まっている。しかし、診断を画像やデータで行なうことへの不安や、設備投資へのコスト負担など課題も多い。医療の現場を急速に変えつつある「遠隔医療」の最前線と本格普及への課題を追う。

"The Impact of Hamas’ Victory - Will Peace in the Middle East collapse?"
Hamas, a Palestinian Islamist organization, participated in the Palestinian Legislative Council elections in January 2006. Although Hamas has carried out violent homicidal terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians, it won a majority of the elections. This victory has the world in concern.
Israel and the U.S. declared that they will not negotiate with terrorists. The E.U., who gives the most aid to the region, said they may reconsider their assistance unless Hamas disarms. Will Hamas continue its attacks on Israel or perhaps change their ways to contribute to a peaceful coexistence with its neighbor Israel.
“Today’s Closeup” this week will analyze Hamas’ choices and what will become of Peace in the Middle East.

ハマス勝利の激震
～中東和平は崩壊するのか～
先月10年ぶりに行われたパレスチナの自治評議会選挙に初めて参加したイスラム原理主義組織・ハマス。イスラエルの生存権を認めず、自爆テロを繰り返してきた組織が、過半数を超える地滑り的勝利をおさめ、いま世界中に大きな衝撃が走っている。テロリストを交渉相手にしないと明言するイスラエルとアメリカ。最大の援助を行うEUも武装解除をしない限り援助を見直す考えを明らかにしている。ハマスは、政権の中枢を担う立場になったことで従来の「対イスラエル武装闘争」を続けるのか、あるいはイスラエルとの共存をはかる「現実路線」に転換するのか。ハマスの選択と和平の行方に迫る。
